About This Coin

Jetons (presentation tokens) created for the Castorland Company, a French venture to establish a colony in northern New York state. Designed by Pierre-Simon-Benjamin Duvivier, the obverse shows Ceres with a plow and the reverse depicts an eagle perched on a maple tree. Original strikings of 1796 are very rare; numerous restrikes exist in bronze, silver, and gold.
