About This Coin
The Myddleton Tokens group of the Post-1776 Private and Regional Issues (1778-1820) series holds the pieces described below. The Myddelton tokens dated 1796 came from Boulton and Watt's works near Birmingham. Hope presents two children to a woman holding a liberty cap on a staff, with BRITISH SETTLEMENT KENTUCKY; the reverse shows a mourning Britannia and the words PAYABLE BY P. P. P. MYDDELTON. Crosby records them in silver and copper with a plain edge, and the same obverse in copper with the reverse of the Copper Company of Upper Canada.
