Liberty Cap Left Half Cents 1793

About This Series

The first half cent design, struck only in 1793, features Liberty facing left with a Phrygian cap on a pole. Designed by Adam Eckfeldt and engraved by Joseph Wright, approximately 35,000 were produced at the Philadelphia Mint. These are among the rarest early American coins and represent the smallest denomination authorized by the Mint Act of 1792.
