The most extensively collected early American series, with over 200 known die varieties cataloged by Overton. John Reich designed the Capped Bust portrait with Liberty facing left. The Lettered Edge type (1807-1836) and Reeded Edge type (1836-1839) represent distinct collecting focuses. Half dollars served as the workhorse denomination of early American commerce.
