Description

Strong triple southward spread on Washington's eyelid — three distinct impressions rather than the standard two — marks this first documented doubled die obverse for a 2025 American Women Quarter as one of the more visually dramatic DDO varieties in contemporary coinage. Tracked by VarietyVista with die markers still pending full assignment (UVC-???? and DMR-00?), the Stage B die state reveals a die chip on the cheek at mid-die state (MDS) with the reverse also in MDS, while Stage A (EDS) and Stage C (LDS) remain unconfirmed. Triple spread indicates the die received at least three hub impressions with progressive misalignment, an occurrence less common than standard doubling. The American Women Quarters program (2022-2025) is in its final year of production in 2025, making VDDO-001 a variety from the series' concluding issues. The Laura Gardin Fraser Washington portrait used on the obverse throughout the program — finally adopted ninety-three years after Fraser originally designed it for the 1932 quarter — provides the eyelid detail where the tripling is concentrated. As VDDO-001, this establishes the primary doubled die obverse entry for the 2025 Women Quarter date, and the pending die marker codes indicate recent discovery with full VarietyVista catalog integration still in progress. The strength of the triple spread on the eyelid suggests this variety should be detectable under relatively modest magnification.
