Description

Class VIII tilted hub doubling produces visible displacement along the edge of the roof above column one and the left edge of the center steps on this 2023 Jefferson nickel reverse, attributed by Brian A. Ribar as WDDR-024. The obverse carries a die chip on the tip of Jefferson's nose, while the reverse displays a die gouge to the right of the bottom crossbar of the E in E PLURIBUS UNUM, a die chip inside the upper left of the M in MONTICELLO, and an additional die chip on the dome. Tilted hub doubling -- classified as Class VIII -- occurs when the hub is slightly angled during the impression process, creating spread that increases progressively in one direction across the die face. These combined markers across both sides make WDDR-024 a diagnostically rich example of modern Jefferson nickel die variety study.
