Description

Discovered by Brian A. Ribar, the 2023 Philadelphia Jefferson Nickel WDDR-023 presents Class VIII tilted hub doubling with notably strong effects on E PLURIBUS UNUM and additional slight doubling on the right side of the center door and the adjacent door on Monticello. The spread across the full Latin motto makes this variety visually accessible at moderate magnification. No obverse markers were noted. The reverse provides three diagnostics: a die dot to the upper right of the small left window, a beginning die depression in the field on the left edge of the building, and a die scratch inside the first U of PLURIBUS. The developing depression at the building's left edge suggests early structural deformation. Cataloged under Wexler Variety ID 2023-P WDDR-023. Twenty-three doubled die reverses for the 2023 Philadelphia nickel reflects continued intensive variety research on this long-running denomination. Bold motto doubling combined with architectural door doubling places WDDR-023 among the more visually compelling entries in the 2023 catalog.
