Description

Showcasing very nice Class VIII tilted hub doubling, the 2023 Philadelphia Mint Jefferson nickel WDDR-008 attributed by Brian A. Ribar displays doubling on NTI of MONTICELLO, E PLURIBUS, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, along the left inside edge of the left long window, and both sides of the building. The breadth of affected design elements makes this one of the more visually comprehensive doubled die reverses among the four WDDR varieties documented on the 2023-P nickel. On the obverse, a die gouge below the O of GOD serves as the primary marker. The reverse carries a die dot above U of UNITED, a die gouge below R of PLURIBUS, and two die gouges between the lower portions of both left windows. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 2023-P WDDR-008, this variety stands out from its 2023-P companions because the doubling extends across such a wide area, from the building's window details to the surrounding legends. Class VIII tilted hub doubling creates a directional spread that varies in intensity across the die face, and the WDDR-008 illustrates this gradient effect across Monticello's facade.
