2022 (P) Jefferson Nickel - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-008

Description

Designated as a "Best Of" Nickel Doubled Die Variety, this 2022 Philadelphia Jefferson Nickel carries a strong Class VIII tilted hub doubling visible on UNITED STATES, the left arch, and the left side of the Monticello building. The Wexler Team lists it among its "Best Of" Nickel Doubled Die Varieties. Attributed by Steven Bernatowicz and cataloged by the Wexler Team as WDDR-008, this die pair exhibits a die crack on the dome and a small die gouge inside the lower right side of the M in UNUM on the reverse, while no obverse die markers were noted. The die crack on Monticello's dome serves as a particularly effective authentication marker due to its prominent position on the design. Class VIII tilted hub doubling produces angular displacement across the affected areas, and the strong spread on UNITED STATES and the left side of the building makes this variety detectable under moderate magnification.
