Description

On the 2022 Philadelphia Jefferson Nickel, WDDR-002 exhibits Class VIII tilted hub doubling below the upper left portion of Monticello's center door frame — a location closely paralleling similar doorframe varieties found across other years in the series. The reverse carries a diagnostic die gouge between the E of FIVE and the C of CENTS, while no significant obverse markers have been noted. The recurring appearance of Class VIII doubling in the Monticello door frame area across multiple years suggests this region of the die consistently experiences the effects of minor hub tilting during the manufacturing process. Class VIII tilted hub doubling produces localized separation rather than the broad, uniform displacement characteristic of Class I pivot doubling. The 2022 Jefferson Nickel continues the standard design that has been in use since 2006, and WDDR-002 as an early variety number indicates it was among the first documented doubled die reverses for this date.
