Description

Documented by Aaron Laramee and cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 2021-P WDDR-007, this Jefferson Nickel exhibits Class VIII tilted hub doubling in two adjacent zones of the Monticello facade: above the right side of the triangular pediment and slightly below the left side of the center door frame above the steps. The two-zone manifestation indicates sufficient rotational offset during hubbing to produce visible secondary impressions across a wider arc of the reverse design than typical single-zone tilted hub varieties. Two reverse die gouges serve as attribution markers: one located to the upper left of the long right window and another to the upper right of the small right window — both situated in the Monticello architectural detail where gouges are readily visible against the building's flat field areas. No significant obverse die markers are noted. The 2021 Jefferson Nickel was produced at the Philadelphia Mint during a year of continued high-volume nickel production. Aaron Laramee's contribution reflects the collaborative research model behind modern die variety documentation, where collector-submitted photography supports Wexler catalog entries.
