Description

Unusual among doubled die obverses for displaying what attributors describe as "sloped extra thickness" on LIBERTY — a term indicating the secondary image tilts at an angle relative to the primary rather than running parallel to it — WDDO-026 is a 2019 Philadelphia Lincoln Shield cent variety with no doubling on the date. The absence of date doubling combined with the sloped LIBERTY effect suggests the hub displacement occurred along an axis that crossed LIBERTY obliquely while leaving the date zone within tolerance. Obverse die markers include a vertical die scratch touching the left side of the O in GOD and a die scratch running through the right side of Lincoln's bowtie. On the reverse, a small die chip sits below the left side of the scroll on the shield design. These three die markers — O scratch, bowtie scratch, and scroll chip — collectively fingerprint this specific working die. Cross-referenced under Wexler Variety ID 2019 1c WDDO-026, the high catalog number reflects the depth of variety research conducted on modern Shield cent production at the Philadelphia Mint.
