Description

Attributed by the Wexler Team and bearing the designation 2019 1c WDDO-002, this doubled die obverse on the 2019-P Lincoln Shield Cent presents moderate extra thickness on the date and LIBERTY, with notching on the upper left corners of ERTY in LIBERTY. The notching — small step-like offsets at letter corners — is a hallmark of hub doubling where the secondary impression slightly overlaps the primary, creating a shelf effect diagnostic under magnification. A small die gouge to the right of the R in LIBERTY serves as the obverse die marker, providing a reliable confirmation point independent of the doubling itself. No significant reverse markers have been noted. Struck at Philadelphia for general circulation, the 2019-P cent was produced in copper-plated zinc, the standard composition since 1982. The Shield reverse, introduced in 2010, depicts a union shield symbolizing Lincoln's preservation of the United States as a single nation. WDDO-002 offers variety collectors an accessible modern doubled die with clear diagnostics, and the combination of extra thickness on the date with letter notching on LIBERTY provides two distinct zones for confirmation.
