2016 (P) Lincoln Shield Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-014

Description

2016 WDDO-014 is a doubled die obverse on the 2016 Lincoln Shield cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The letters of LIBERTY show moderate extra thickness, their lower left corners lightly notched, and the date shows light extra thickness. Wexler records four stages. The Stage A obverse has no markers. On the Stage B obverse, two NW/SE scratches lie below the eye. By Stage C those scratches have been abraded away, and a small chip sits on the lower part of the T in LIBERTY; the Stage D obverse is the same as Stage C. The reverse has no markers on Stage A, and Stage B is the same. On the Stage C reverse, chips sit on the shield's top left, above the P and the first U of PLURIBUS. On Stage D, the chip above the first U now extends into the field. Leonard Matyjasik submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
