Description

Cataloged as the second variety doubled die reverse for the 2016 Fort Moultrie National Park Quarter, VDDR-002 displays light spread South as an extra coat edge along the soldier's lower left coat — the same general area of doubling seen on DDR-001 but from a different die. Southward displacement shifts the secondary coat contour below the primary edge, creating a doubled outline visible under magnification along the soldier's uniform. The Fort Moultrie quarter's reverse depicts Sergeant William Jasper raising the regimental flag during the 1776 British bombardment of Sullivan's Island, a scene rich with figural detail where subtle hub displacement manifests along the flowing lines of military garb. Stage A documents the obverse in Early Die State and the reverse in Early-to-Mid Die State. Two doubled die reverses targeting the same coat edge from different dies suggests this region was particularly susceptible to visible hub displacement. The VDDR prefix designates a VarietyVista-cataloged doubled die reverse, and the similar southward spread on both DDR-001 and VDDR-002 indicates consistent directionality in hub alignment for this issue.
