Description

Fourteen doubled die reverse varieties cataloged for the 2015 Philadelphia Mint Roosevelt Dime illustrate the scale at which modern die varieties are documented. Each WDDR number represents a distinct working die that received an offset hub impression during its production, and WDDR-014 is the fourteenth such die identified. The process of discovering these varieties involves methodical examination of coins pulled from circulation or purchased in mint-sealed rolls, comparing each specimen against known die states. When a new variety is found, the attributor records the doubling location, direction, and magnitude, then assigns it a sequential catalog number. This infrastructure of documentation — maintained by the Wexler Team and other attributors — enables collectors to verify their own finds against published references. The Roosevelt Dime's reverse torch, with its horizontal bands and surrounding branches, provides the design detail against which doubling is most readily observed. Recorded as Wexler Variety ID 2015-P 10¢ WDDR-014.
