2015 (P) Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-013

Description

The clad era of U.S. coinage, which began in 1965 when rising silver prices prompted a compositional change, introduced copper-nickel clad dimes that continue to the present day. Variety collecting on these modern clad issues has grown steadily as attributors apply the same rigorous standards used for classic silver coinage. WDDR-013 for the 2015 Philadelphia Mint Roosevelt Dime is one example of this modern documentation effort. The doubled die reverse was created during die production when a hub impression landed slightly offset from the first, transferring a doubled image into the working die. Every coin struck from that die carries the same doubling, distinguishing it from mechanical doubling caused by loose die fit during striking. The distinction matters because true doubled dies are collectible varieties, while mechanical doubling is generally considered damage.
