2015 (P) Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-010

Description

Hub doubling on U.S. coin dies occurs during the sinking process, when a hardened hub is pressed into a softer die blank to transfer the coin's design. If the hub and die are not perfectly aligned for every impression, the resulting die carries overlapping images — the hallmark of a doubled die. WDDR-010 from the 2015 Philadelphia Mint Roosevelt Dime is one product of this mechanical reality. The Roosevelt Dime's reverse, with its central torch flanked by branches and ringed by inscriptions, presents multiple zones where such misalignment becomes detectable. Since the clad transition in 1965, billions of Roosevelt Dimes have been struck, and the small percentage exhibiting doubled dies still translates to a substantial number of documented varieties. Collectors working through 2015 dime rolls may encounter this variety among the normal strikes, identifiable by the characteristic doubling on reverse design elements.
