2015 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-008

Description

Tracked by VarietyVista as UVC-2098 / DMR-009, the 2015 DDR-008 Homestead National Park quarter displays a very strong spread to the northwest in window L2 that extends into window L1 of the homestead cabin depicted on the reverse. This strength of doubling makes it one of the more dramatic modern quarter DDR varieties. Three die stages have been recorded: Stage A is early die state, unconfirmed. Stage B is cataloged at early-to-mid die state, showing a die break on the upper left roof, depressions above the right roof, a die break in the lower right corn husk, and a depression along the middle left corn husk, while the obverse is also at early-to-mid die state. Stage C reaches late die state, unconfirmed. The architectural detail of the Homestead cabin, with its multiple windows and structural lines, provides an ideal canvas for displaying hub doubling, as even modest shifts produce clearly visible secondary images in the window frames. Collectors examining America the Beautiful quarters from 2015 should check the L1 and L2 windows first as a screening diagnostic.
