Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista with die marker identifiers UVC-2097 and DMR-008, DDR-007 on the 2015 America the Beautiful quarter displays a strong northward spread that manifests as an extra water pump visible in windows L3 and R3, accompanied by an eastward spread producing an extra window element in window L3. The doubling affects the architectural details of the reverse design — elements that require careful magnification to distinguish from the normal relief, especially on coins struck from later die states where flow lines and die fatigue can mimic or obscure hub doubling. Three distinct die stages have been documented for this variety. Stage A represents early die state (EDS) on both the reverse and obverse, when the die is freshest and the doubling diagnostics are sharpest and most clearly defined. Stage B transitions into mid-die state (MDS), though this remains unconfirmed and awaits additional specimens for verification. Stage C reportedly reaches late die state (LDS), also unconfirmed, where accumulated die wear would be expected to soften the doubling while introducing die flow lines and minor cracks. America the Beautiful quarters were produced in enormous quantities at both Philadelphia and Denver, making the base date readily available, but specific DDR die pairings from the program's eleven-year run remain scarce relative to the total mintage.
