Description

As the primary doubled die obverse for the 2015-P Jefferson Nickel, DDO-001 exhibits a strong spread to the northwest on Jefferson's left nostril — a facial feature where even minor hub displacement produces a clearly visible doubling effect due to the high relief of the portrait. Die markers include UVC-1822 and DMR-004. Three die stages are recorded: Stage A with both obverse and reverse in early die state, Stage B at mid-die state (unconfirmed), and Stage C at late die state (unconfirmed). The Jefferson Nickel series has been struck continuously since 1938, and Felix Schlag's original obverse portrait (modified slightly over the decades) provides consistent diagnostic areas — particularly the nose, eye, and jawline — where collectors can detect hub doubling. Strong spread on the nostril is readily visible without high magnification and provides an unambiguous attribution point.
