2015 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-042
Error
Description
Documented by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-2141 and DMR-043, DDR-042 on the 2015 America the Beautiful quarter exhibits very strong hubbing northwest as an extra partial pump in window L3 extending into R3, and as an extra window in lower window L2 and west as an extra window in L3 and R3. This "extra window" terminology describes hub displacement so pronounced that it creates what appears to be additional architectural fenestration on the building design — a dramatic visual effect that makes this one of the more impressive doubled die varieties in the ATB quarter series. Three die stages have been identified: Stage A shows both the reverse and obverse in early die state, Stage B in mid die state remains unconfirmed, and Stage C in late die state is also unconfirmed. The very strong hubbing classification, combined with the multiple window displacements across several reference positions (L2, L3, R3), indicates a substantial misalignment during the secondary hubbing impression that produced large-magnitude doubling visible without magnification on well-struck specimens. The 2015 ATB quarter was struck at the Philadelphia Mint on copper-nickel clad planchets weighing 5.67 grams with a diameter of 24.26 mm. The ATB series featured detailed architectural and landscape scenes that provided numerous geometric reference points for detecting hub doubling, and the window-grid nomenclature (L2, L3, R3) used in the attribution demonstrates the systematic approach researchers developed for cataloging displacement across these complex reverse designs.
