2015 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-027
Error
Description
Bearing VarietyVista designations UVC-2126 and DMR-028, this 2015 America the Beautiful Quarter displays a light spread directed north-northeast in window R2 — a subtle but diagnostically confirmed doubling feature localized to a specific architectural element of the reverse design. The design is the Homestead National Monument of America (Nebraska) reverse, the same design that hosts the DDR-096 variety, but this DDR-027 represents a different die with a lighter spread and different die markers. Die state tracking shows Stage A with both reverse and obverse at early die state, Stage B at early-to-mid die state (EMDS) with a small depression along the upper left roof, a small depression along the middle right roof, and the obverse at EMDS, and Stage C at late die state remaining unconfirmed. The roof depressions developing in Stage B serve as mid-life chronological markers, documenting when die surface deformation began to accumulate. The America the Beautiful Quarter was struck in copper-nickel clad at 5.67 grams with a 24.26 mm diameter. The Homestead cabin design's detailed window elements provide precise reference locations for identifying doubling — the "R2" window designation uses a systematic naming convention for the cabin's architectural features, enabling collectors to pinpoint exactly which window shows the north-northeast spread. The light spread classification means this doubling requires careful examination under higher magnification (10x or more) to confirm, making it a variety that rewards patient, methodical searching. The 27th cataloged DDR for the 2015 date demonstrates the ongoing discovery of new doubled die varieties within the America the Beautiful program's architecturally detailed reverse designs.
