2015 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-026

Description

Documented by VarietyVista with die marker codes UVC-2125 and DMR-027, this 2015 America the Beautiful Quarter DDR-026 exhibits a light spread in the east-northeast direction visible in window R3 of the Homestead National Monument design — a localized doubling feature within the architectural detail of the historic Palmer-Epard cabin depicted on the reverse. Three die stages record this working die’s service history: Stage A is early die state (EDS, unconfirmed); Stage B is mid-die state (MDS, unconfirmed); Stage C reaches late die state with a small die chip to the right of the chimney, a die break in the lower right corn husk, a die break under the bucket, and the obverse reaching late-to-mid die state (LMDS). The Stage C deterioration markers — particularly the die breaks in the corn husk and under the bucket — represent progressive structural failure at detailed design elements where the die’s recessed features created stress concentration points under repeated striking. The 2015 Homestead Quarter honors Homestead National Monument of America in Nebraska, part of the America the Beautiful Quarters Program (2010–2021). The reverse, designed by Ronald D. Sanders, depicts a cabin scene with agricultural elements including corn husks and a bucket. Struck in copper-nickel clad composition (8.33% nickel, balance copper) weighing 5.67 grams with a 24.26 mm diameter, the obverse features John Flanagan’s Washington portrait. The east-northeast spread direction in window R3 demonstrates how hub displacement vectors interact differently with each window’s geometry, as the doubling’s visibility depends on the relationship between the displacement direction and the window frame’s orientation within the cabin design.
