2015 (P) Homestead National Monument of America Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse DDR-016

Description

A light spread toward the southwest in window L2 on the reverse of a 2015 America the Beautiful quarter characterizes this doubled die reverse cataloged by VarietyVista. The ATB quarter program, running from 2010 through 2021, issued five unique reverse designs each year through 2020 (one in 2021) honoring national parks and sites, and the detailed scenic imagery on these reverses — buildings, landscapes, wildlife — offered numerous design elements susceptible to visible hub doubling. Window L2 refers to a specific architectural feature on the 2015 reverse design, and the southwest directional spread indicates the hub shifted slightly in that direction during the second hubbing impression. Die stage documentation records this variety across three stages: UVC-2115, DMR-017, with Stage A as early die state (unconfirmed), Stage B showing both reverse and obverse at early-to-mid die state, and Stage C as late die state (unconfirmed). The multi-stage tracking allows collectors to identify the progression of die wear on specimens they encounter, as the die surface changes throughout its working life. ATB quarters were struck at both Philadelphia and Denver in large quantities, and each facility's die pairs could independently develop hub doubling. This DDR-016 attribution places the variety within a substantial catalog of doubled dies documented across the entire ATB program.
