Description

Class VIII tilted hub doubling appears inside the triangle above the center door of Monticello on this twenty-eighth doubled die reverse for the 2014 Philadelphia Mint Jefferson Nickel, attributed by Brian Sims and cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 2014-P WDDR-028. Class VIII doubling results from an angular tilt of the hub relative to the die during the hubbing process, creating rotational displacement that varies in magnitude across the design based on distance from the tilt axis. Die markers on the reverse include a die crack from the left edge of the building to the rim and a die dot to the left of U of UNITED, while no significant markers were noted on the obverse.
