2014 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-017

Description

Discovered by Jessy Gozum, the 2014-P WDDR-017 Jefferson nickel shows Class VIII tilted hub doubling below the upper portion of the door frame on Monticello's center door, directly above the building's front steps. Class VIII doubling occurs when the hub contacts the die at an angle rather than flat, producing a tilted secondary impression that does not follow a simple directional axis. The affected area — the transition zone between the doorway and the steps — sits at a visually prominent point on the Monticello facade. Obverse die markers include a small die chip in Jefferson's hair below his right ear, while the reverse carries a die chip on the right edge of the building. These chips provide die-specific attribution points independent of the doubling itself. Cataloged under Wexler Variety ID 2014-P WDDR-017, this variety complements the VarietyVista-cataloged DDR-001 from the same date and mint, though the two originate from different working dies and display different doubling classes and affected areas. The Wexler system's high sequence number (017) reflects the productive cataloging of 2014 Jefferson nickel varieties.
