2014 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-015
ErrorDescription
Attributed by Stephen Young, the 2014 Philadelphia Mint Jefferson nickel WDDR-015 exhibits Class VIII tilted hub doubling visible below the upper left portion of the door frame on the center door above the steps of Monticello. Class VIII doubling results from the hub tilting relative to the die during impression, creating a spread that concentrates along one axis. This variety is one of two Class VIII DDRs documented on the 2014-P nickel, the other being WDDR-016, which affects a slightly different area of the door frame. No significant obverse markers have been noted. The reverse carries die gouges at the rim to the upper right of M of UNUM, die dents at the rim above and to the right of S of PLURIBUS, and a die crack from the right base of the building to the rim, indicating progressive die failure. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 2014-P WDDR-015, this variety demonstrates that Monticello's architectural details, particularly the central doorway, are susceptible to Class VIII tilted hub displacement due to their fine relief on Felix Schlag's reverse design.
