2014 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-011

Description

Identified by Allen Darrow, the 2014 Philadelphia Jefferson Nickel WDDR-011 displays Class VIII Tilted Hub Doubling below the upper portion of the door frame on the Monticello reverse. Class VIII doubling results from an angular tilt between hub and die during the hubbing process, creating rotational displacement that shifts the secondary image at an angle relative to the primary. The Monticello door frame area is a recurring diagnostic zone for Jefferson Nickel DDRs because its straight architectural lines make even slight displacement readily apparent against the building's geometric facade. Die markers on this variety include a die crack and chip at Jefferson's left eyebrow on the obverse, die gouges inside the left arch of Monticello, and additional die gouges above the right arch on the reverse. These multiple markers provide collectors with a robust set of diagnostics for confirming attribution.
