2014 (P) Jefferson Nickel - Doubled Die Reverse DDR-013

Description

Displaying strong spread in the north direction visible as an extra triangle at the bottom of the Monticello design, this doubled die reverse on the 2014 Philadelphia Mint Jefferson Nickel was documented by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-1063 and DMR-014. A doubled die reverse occurs when the hub imparts a shifted image during die manufacture, and the "strong spread North" classification indicates the secondary image is displaced upward relative to the primary design. Three die stages are documented: Stage A with both reverse and obverse in Early Die State (EDS), Stage B in Mid Die State (MDS, unconfirmed), and Stage C in Late Die State (LDS, unconfirmed). The Monticello reverse of the Jefferson Nickel, restored in 2006 after the Westward Journey series interruption, features Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate with its distinctive columned facade and triangular pediment — architectural details that readily show doubling because their geometric precision makes even slight misalignment immediately apparent.
