Description

Very strong spread to the north produces an extra left triangle bottom in the upper triangle of Monticello on this 2014 Philadelphia Mint Jefferson Nickel, cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-1831, DMR-012. Three die stages are documented: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B showing a light die crack from the lower right building to the rim at EMDS, with the obverse also at EMDS; Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The extra triangle detail in the Monticello pediment area is a visually distinctive diagnostic that stands out under moderate magnification, as the doubled triangular element creates an obvious geometric anomaly in the architectural design. The Jefferson Nickel's Monticello reverse, designed by Felix Schlag and in production since 1938, features detailed architectural elements — columns, pediment triangles, windows, and the dome — that serve as sensitive indicators of die doubling. Twelve die marriages documented by VarietyVista for the 2014-P date indicates active variety research on modern Jefferson Nickels, with this DDR-011 among the stronger entries.
