2014 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-009

Description

Identified by VarietyVista as UVC-1829 / DMR-010, the 2014 DDR-009 Jefferson Nickel exhibits medium spread to the south, creating an extra left central doorway roof on the Monticello reverse. Unlike Memorial cent DDRs where column doubling predominates, Jefferson Nickel reverses concentrate doubling on the architectural elements of Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate — particularly the central doorway, its roof line, and the triangular pediment above the portico. Southward spread pushes the secondary image downward, producing a ghost of the doorway's upper edge below its original position. Confirmed at Early Die State (Stage A), the doubled roof line should appear as a clean secondary horizontal element beneath the primary doorway top. The Monticello reverse, designed by Felix Schlag and in continuous use since 1938, features a compact architectural rendering where subtle hub shifts can create noticeable secondary images on the building's finer details. Medium-spread doorway doubling on Jefferson Nickels is one of the most actively collected variety types within the modern nickel series.
