Description

A medium south-southeast spread on the left central doorway roof corner of Monticello defines this 2014 Jefferson nickel variety, cataloged as DDR-006 by VarietyVista with UVC-1826 and DMR-007. The doubling targets one of the architectural features that experienced cherry-pickers routinely examine on the nickel's familiar reverse design. Three die stages are documented: Stage A shows an early die state with a small die gouge dot in the lower N of UNITED and an early die state obverse; Stage B and Stage C remain unconfirmed at mid- and late-die states respectively. The Felix Schlag Monticello design, returned to the reverse in 2006 after the Westward Journey commemorative series, continues to produce a steady stream of doubled die varieties that sustain collector interest in modern Jefferson nickel die studies across each new production year.
