Description

2013-P SD WDDR-034 is a doubled die reverse on the 2013-P Mount Rushmore National Memorial quarter (South Dakota) in the America the Beautiful series, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling is on the lower nose of Thomas Jefferson. Obverse Stage A has a gouge to the left of LIBERTY's I, one between QUARTER's last R and DOLLAR's D, and one touching the upper left of AMERICA's E. On Obverse Stage B the gouge left of the I is weak but still there and the other Stage A markers have worn away; a new gouge appears well under the left side of AMERICA's M, close to the head. Reverse Stage A has a small gouge over the lower end of the doubling, a small gouge on Washington's nose, and a gouge among the rocks to the left of Jefferson's right eyebrow. On Reverse Stage B the nose gouge has worn away while the other Stage A markers remain; new are three pre-die break depressions in the rock under RUSHMORE's RUS and a small gouge under the right side of RUSHMORE's M. Aaron Laramee submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
