Description

2013-P SD WDDR-028 is a doubled die reverse on the 2013-P Mount Rushmore National Memorial quarter (South Dakota) in the America the Beautiful series, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling is on the lower nose of Thomas Jefferson. Obverse Stage A has a NW/SE crack through the designer's initials, a gouge to the right of QUARTER's U near its top, a small gouge in the lower opening of LIBERTY's E, and a gouge over LIBERTY's IB. On Obverse Stage B a die chip has formed at the crack's left end, and the Stage A gouges are weaker but still present; new gouges lie between the lower parts of DOLLAR's D and O, under UNITED's D, and under the center arm of OF's F. Reverse Stage A has a crack heading N off the suspended worker's right foot and a gouge before Washington's mouth. Reverse Stage B keeps the Stage A markers, with the crack now reaching farther N, and adds a die chip at the right of Jefferson's nostril. George W. Powell, Jr. submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler notes this is a replacement listing: the first WDDR-028 turned out to duplicate WDDR-012.
