2010 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-003

Description

Attributed by the Wexler Team and cross-referenced as Crawford CDDO-003, this 2010 Philadelphia Lincoln Shield cent displays extra thickness on the letters of LIBERTY with notched corners visible on the lower left portions of ERTY. The notching effect, where hub doubling creates small angular steps at letter corners, provides a distinctive pickup point under moderate magnification. Obverse die markers include a small die gouge to the right of the second zero in the date. The reverse exhibits several diagnostics: a die crack running along the top of the left side of the shield, a die chip on the top of the shield north of the R in PLURIBUS, and a light die scratch running from WSW to ENE below the ON of ONE. The 2010 Lincoln cent introduced the Union Shield reverse designed by Lyndall Bass, and WDDO-003 is among the earliest doubled die varieties documented on this new design type.
