2010 (P) Lincoln Shield Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

2010 WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 2010 Lincoln Shield cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. LIBERTY shows extra thickness, and the ERTY has notched upper left corners. Obverse, Stage A: under the I and B of LIBERTY, between them, a small gouge; halfway between the centers of the N in IN and the G in GOD, another small gouge; short vertical gouges halfway between the tops of WE's E and TRUST's first T, and between the W and E of WE at their tops; a crack through the hair from the upper back of the head, SW to NE, ending on top of the head under WE, with a chip at its lower end; another chip on the head's top below WE; a WNW to ESE crack through the hair over the forehead; and a crack heading NW through the eyebrow into the forehead. Stage B: two more chips have formed on the SW to NE hair crack, close to where it meets the head's top. Reverse, Stage A: right of the D in UNITED, near its top, a small gouge; SSW of the O in OF, a gouge; and between the M and E of AMERICA, a small gouge. Wexler gives Stage B as the same as Stage A. Marilyn Keeney submitted the variety. Its Coppercoins number is 2010P-1DO-001. Wexler's comments add that the reverse also shows the anomaly called trails, running out from the upper letters of USA; Robert H. Neff's Trail Die Files list it as 2010P-1DER-001T. Wexler's photos compare LIBERTY on this variety with a normal 2010 cent, which lacks the extra thickness and the upper left notching.
