Description

Found on the satin finish version of the 2009 Puerto Rico Quarter, DDR-003 shows light spread with very light additional hubbing north of the upper tower, creating an extra wave detail to the right of that architectural element. The satin finish, applied to coins produced for 2005 through 2010 mint sets, gives surfaces a distinctive matte-like texture differing from both proof mirrors and standard business-strike luster. Attributed by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-2146 and DMR-005, three progressive stages are documented: Stage A shows both reverse and obverse in early die state, Stage B in mid-die state remains unconfirmed, and Stage C in late die state likewise awaits confirmation. The Puerto Rico Quarter was part of the 2009 DC and US Territories Quarter series, extending the America the Beautiful concept to non-state jurisdictions. Satin finish coins can only be found in official mint sets from this period. Struck in copper-nickel clad at Philadelphia, this satin finish territorial quarter documents subtle reverse doubling near the tower element, available exclusively through mint set distribution during the final years of the satin finish program.
