2009 (P) District of Columbia Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-020

Description

2009-P DC WDDR-020 is a doubled die reverse on the 2009-P District of Columbia quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling shows right of the left elbow and over the first two black keys. Obverse markers: a short crack across the designers' initials JF WC, along their top; short north-south scratches under the ear; a small gouge left of the first T of TRUST; a small gouge over the U of TRUST, right side; and small gouges to the left of and over the W of WE. Reverse markers: three pre-die break depressions on the piano's upper right side; a gouge left of the C of COLUMBIA; a gouge over Ellington's right shoulder; small gouges over the C of JUSTICE; and small gouges over the coat tail that hangs over the seat. George W. Powell, Jr. submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 5-R-VIII. Wexler notes this listing replaces an earlier one, since the first WDDR-020 turned out to be a die clash.
