Description

Cataloged by the Wexler Team as 2008-W $1 SE WTRD-001, this American Silver Eagle is a transitional reverse design variety where the 2008-W Burnished Eagle was struck using the 2007 reverse die design (Rev '07), also listed as FS-901. Transitional varieties occur when a die from a previous year's design is inadvertently used. Obverse die markers: a light die scratch WSW to ENE left of the top of the I in LIBERTY. Reverse: a die gouge below the C in AMERICA and a die gouge below the N in FINE. Featuring Adolph A. Weinman's Walking Liberty obverse and John Mercanti's heraldic eagle reverse, the Silver Eagle was struck at the West Point Mint as a burnished collector edition in .999 fine silver, weighing 31.1 grams with a 40.6 mm diameter.
