Description

Among the earlier-cataloged doubled die reverses for the 2007-S proof Wyoming State Quarter, DDR-002 exhibits medium spread on the horse's mane directly under the saddle horn — a sculptural focal point of the bucking horse and rider design that represents Wyoming's cowboy heritage. Die markers UVC-1719 and DMR-004 distinguish this variety from DDR-005 (UVC-1884, DMR-007), which affects the same mane-under-saddle-horn area but originates from a different working die. The distinction between DDR-002 and DDR-005 demonstrates how multiple dies can develop similar doubling in the same design area when hub displacement affects a consistent zone during die production. Three die states are documented: Stage A with reverse and obverse in Early Die State, Stage B in Mid Die State (unconfirmed), and Stage C in Late Die State (unconfirmed). The 2007-S Wyoming quarter was struck as a copper-nickel clad proof at the San Francisco Mint as part of the 50 State Quarters Program. Examine the horse's mane beneath the saddle horn under 7x magnification for medium displacement, and use UVC-1719 to confirm DDR-002 rather than its sister variety DDR-005.
