2007 (P) Washington State Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

2007-P WA WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 2007-P Washington state quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. Just under the bottom of the ear there is a partial extra earlobe. Obverse Stage A shows a gouge over the W of WE at its center, a short scratch running north from the F's lower horizontal bar in OF, a gouge over the first L of DOLLAR, a crack across the bust's base and through the upper part of the designer's initials, and a pre-die crack depression running NE into the forehead from the eyebrow's front. Stage B adds a gouge left of the I of AMERICA at mid-height, a gouge SSW of the second T of TRUST, a gouge north of the horizontal bar of the first L in DOLLAR, and clash marks right of the ear's bottom and at the upper middle of the neck; by now the depression from the eyebrow into the forehead has become a crack. Reverse Stage A has a scratch linking the salmon's mouth with the 9 of 1889 at its lower left. Stage B shows a gouge under the W of WASHINGTON toward its right side, three nearly parallel SW-NE scratches over the peak of Mt. Rainier, a scratch heading NE from the fourth E of EVERGREEN at its top, and clash marks over the first E of EVERGREEN. Steven Bernatowicz submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
