2007 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-003

Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista as DDR-003 under die markers UVC-2160 and DMR-005, this 2007 Philadelphia Utah State Quarter exhibits a light spread east from the lower right spike edge. Three die states have been documented for this variety. Stage A in early die state remains unconfirmed. Stage B at mid die state presents a die crack running from the right train to the rim, a die break on the bust above the E of QUARTER, two die chips on the designer's initials, a die break on the lower ribbon, and die breaks in both the upper and lower portions of the B in LIBERTY. Stage C in late die state also remains unconfirmed. Utah quarters featured the Golden Spike monument commemorating the completion of the transcontinental railroad, and the spike detail where the doubling concentrates is one of the design's finest engraved elements. The mid die state specimens with their extensive crack network across both obverse and reverse provide the most reliable attribution window for this variety.
