Second reverse cud cataloged for the 2007-P Utah State Quarter, this die break variety formed when a section of the reverse die rim fractured and fell away, leaving a cavity that produced a raised featureless blob along the coin's edge on every subsequent strike. The Utah quarter's reverse design depicts two locomotives meeting at Promontory Summit to commemorate the completion of the first transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869 — a design rich in fine detail that provides clear reference points for locating the cud's position relative to the composition. Cataloged by Cuds on Coins with no known cross-references, the "02R" suffix establishes this as the second reverse cud documented for the 2007-P Utah issue, indicating systematic die rim failures occurred on at least two different reverse dies during production. The State Quarters program (1999-2008) generated enormous collector interest and production volumes, with the Philadelphia Mint striking approximately 255 million Utah quarters in 2007.
