Description

The 2007 (D) Presidential Dollar - James Madison, Position B was struck at the Denver Mint as a dollar in the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. Denver's 2007 James Madison dollars numbered 87.8 million in all; how many carry Position B edge lettering is unknown. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The fourth President (1809–1817), James Madison is known as the "Father of the Constitution" for his pivotal role in drafting the document and the Bill of Rights. His presidency was defined by the War of 1812, during which the British burned the White House and Capitol in 1814. Inaugural year of the Presidential Dollar Program, honoring Washington, Adams, Jefferson, and Madison. The "Godless Dollar" error — coins struck without the edge-incused motto IN GOD WE TRUST — generated national headlines and collector frenzy. Coined at Denver's facility, which transitioned from processing Colorado gold rush metal to full-scale coin production in 1906. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #150228.
