2006 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

First cataloged doubled die obverse for the 2006-P South Dakota State Quarter, WDDO-001 shows doubling on the underside of Washington's earlobe — a common attribution point for State Quarter DDOs because the ear's curved relief amplifies even slight hub displacement. On the obverse, a small die gouge (dot) can be found below and between the S and T of TRUST, and a small die gouge (dot) sits west-southwest of the G in GOD. The reverse carries a die gouge below the O in SOUTH, providing a secondary marker for confirming the die pair. Cataloged under Wexler Variety ID 2006-P 25' SD WDDO-001, this variety belongs to the South Dakota State Quarter whose reverse depicts Mount Rushmore, a ring of wheat, and the state's outline.
