CU-25c-2006P-03R(ND) Cud

Description

Documented by Cuds on Coins on June 12, 2018, with no established cross-reference number, the CU-25c-2006P-03R(ND) is a cud error found on the reverse of a 2006-P North Dakota State Quarter. The catalog designation indicates this is the third reverse cud documented for the 2006-P North Dakota issue. The accompanying note records die cracks on the bottom of the bust on the obverse, providing supplementary die state context — the obverse die cracking at Washington's bust suggests the die pair was in a later stage of its production life when the reverse cud break occurred. Cuds form when a section of the die rim fractures and separates, leaving a cavity in the die that produces a raised, smooth, featureless blob of metal on the struck coin's rim area. The North Dakota State Quarter reverse, designed by Donna Weaver, depicts two American bison grazing before a sunset over rugged badlands terrain with the inscription "Peace Garden State." The 2006-P North Dakota quarter was struck at the Philadelphia Mint in copper-nickel clad composition (8.33% nickel over pure copper core) at 5.67 grams and 24.3 mm diameter. As part of the 50 State Quarters Program, the 2006 issues included Nevada, Nebraska, Colorado, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
