Description
The 2006 (P) Jefferson Nickel is a nickel minted at the Philadelphia Mint, within the Jefferson Nickels Return to Monticello 2006 to Date series. The Philadelphia Mint struck 693,120,000 nickels dated 2006. The obverse shows Jamie Franki's forward-facing portrait of Thomas Jefferson in a three-quarter view, introduced in 2006 as the first U.S. circulating coin portrait of a president facing forward, and the reverse shows Felix Schlag's Monticello, restored by John Mercanti. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5 grams, 21.21 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #4162.
