CU-25c-2006P-16R Cud

Description

Immediately following the fifteenth reverse cud in the catalog sequence, this sixteenth documented reverse cud on the 2006 Philadelphia Mint Colorado State Quarter records another instance where a piece of the die rim fractured and separated completely, producing the characteristic raised featureless mass at the coin's edge. Like its predecessor CU-25c-2006P-15R, this variety also shows an obverse die crack noted by the original cataloger. The close sequence numbers suggest these cuds may have been discovered and cataloged during the same research period, though they represent different die pairs. Cataloged by Cuds on Coins, CU-25c-2006P-16R extends the already substantial record of rim failures on Colorado State Quarters. Sixteen reverse cuds from a single date and mint is a high count even by State Quarter standards, where the massive production volumes consumed many die pairs and pushed each die through extended striking runs. The Colorado quarter's Rocky Mountain reverse design was one of fifty unique reverses produced across the State Quarters 1999-2008 series, and die variety specialists systematically documented cuds across all fifty designs.
