Description

Exhibiting strong spread that manifests as an extra tree in the rock to the right of the third tree, DDR-079 is a doubled die reverse on the 2005-P Minnesota State Quarter struck with the satin finish reserved for Mint Sets. Despite bold character, the hubbing was relatively light, producing the doubled image as a ghostly secondary tree embedded in the rocky landscape. This variety carries cross-references UVC-1692 and DMR-084. Three die stages have been identified: Stage A documents early die state, while Stages B and C capture mid-die-state and late die state conditions that remain unconfirmed. The satin finish surface, applied exclusively to 2005 through 2010 Mint Set coins, was achieved through burnishing that gave planchets a distinctive matte texture unlike proof or business strike surfaces. Attributed by VarietyVista, DDR-079 should be sought in sealed 2005 uncirculated Mint Sets, as these SMS coins were not released into general circulation.
